Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9
Joshua 1:9
Recently I faced a situation where I felt I had been unfairly treated. I battled throughout the afternoon and night with negative feelings because of it. I recalled other unfair treatment I felt I had received for things that were and are so petty and trivial.
I played some worship music but then began to choose songs I wanted to hear instead of allowing the auto play to just run. I came upon a song by Elevation Worship entitled, “Gone”. I’ve heard this song many times before but somehow this time it really ministered to me. What I heard was that God had forgiven me, that no sin could keep His love from me. It reminded me of who I am in Christ. That is not dependent on other people’s opinions of me, and it certainly isn’t dependent on the world’s assessment of me. The world’s assessment of me does not determine God’s love for me, neither does it determine His blessings toward me. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life whether or not I’m perfect, whether or not other people think I’m worthy of it, whether or not I think I’m worthy of it. Thank God He doesn’t depend on others to assess us and to determine His love for us. Indeed nothing can separate us from God’s love, nothing or no one can stop God from loving us. That’s the unique and beautiful thing about our God, my God, He loves us and doesn’t need anyone or anything to dictate His love for us. Even if everyone hates us, He will still love us. He is not moved by a crowd or popularity but by who and what He is . . . L O V E. Isn’t it great to know that the God we know will not stop loving us if He hears some gossip or negative comment about us. He knows us, He created us and He planted purpose in each of us. Think about it. If God were moved by people’s opinions David would never have been anointed king; he would not have gotten the opportunity to fight Goliath . . . and win; Gideon would not have been chosen to deliver his people from their enemies; and Jesus would not have chosen the men He chose to be His disciples. And there are many more examples! God is moved by who He is, and by His purpose. So be encouraged that the great things God has for you are not dependent on anyone’s opinion or personal desires, not even yours. God’s plans for you are still to prosper you, not to harm you, to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). With this in mind, just know that the world can do what it wants but it can’t stop God’s love for you or His plan and purpose for your life.
