Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9
Joshua 1:9
Recently, I have been hearing this song playing over and over again in my mind: “I’ll find you,” by Gospel artist, Lecrae. I heard it on the radio and couldn’t get it out of my mind. I searched for it on YouTube and was really inspired by not just the song but the video for the song. In the video, the focus was on young patients in a hospital suffering with cancer and how they coped with it on a daily basis. I also researched the background behind the song and discovered that the song was inspired by people in Lecrae’s own life who had suffered from and even died of terrible illness. The purpose of the song, as he put it is to inspire hope in the midst of pain. However, the part that grabs my attention is the words, “I’ll find you,” which is also the title of the song. Those words speak volumes to me. I hear those words and I think of the fact that no matter how far my problems may take me, God will always be able to get to me. There is no problem too big, or challenge too impossible that can render my God incapable of reaching me and coming to my rescue. The chorus says: Just fight a little longer my friend It’s all worth it in the end But when you got nobody to turn to Just hold on and I’ll find you... Although the song was an encouragement to those suffering from severe illness and to highlight their struggle, it seems to me an encouragement for us to keep fighting no matter our challenges. It’s a song that encourages us not to give up and that no matter how lonely we may feel at times in our struggle, there is always someone we can lean on. I parallel this to my recent readings on the story of king Saul’s pursuit of David (1 Samuel 18-26). David found himself fleeing his home along with his family as king Saul, in a fit of jealous rage, sought David’s life to kill him. He realized that he had lost the kingdom to this young man and therefore ruthlessly pursued him in an attempt to destroy his life. David, understandably was saddened and confused by his behavior. Many times, he felt alone, yet, he put his trust in his God and God never once gave up on him. Even at his loneliest, he knew he had Someone he could lean on, Someone who could protect him from the attacks against his life. Psalm 139:7-12 speaks about our inability to hide from God. “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there” (vv. 7-8). It seems as if no matter where we are, no matter how far we may run from God, He is there. He is the One who can “find” us even when no one else can. He can reach us at the point of our need. I am so grateful that many years ago when I was lost in the world through my own wrong choices and decisions, I was never lost to God. Even though I could hide from some, I could not hide from God. I was never lost to him. And I am glad that when He was ready, He called me back to Himself and restored me. He knew exactly where I was and knew exactly how to get my attention to bring me back to Him. As the saying goes, “I was lost but now I’m found.” God found me when I couldn’t even find myself. He is faithful and has promised to never leave me or forsake me. I don’t know how lonely or how lost you may feel today. Maybe sin has driven you far from God or maybe challenges in your finances, health, family, relationships, job, life in general, may have left you feeling lost and alone wondering where God is and if He is even seeing you. But, just a gentle reminder that at the end of the day, no matter how far you may feel at times from God, He is not capable of losing you! He knows exactly where to find you and how to rescue and restore you. It may seem to be taking some time but His timing is always perfect. If you have not accepted Jesus Christ into your life as Lord and Saviour I encourage you to make that step now. You may feel as if you have gone too far for God to reach you but that is simply not true. He is the One person capable of reaching us wherever we are, of finding us no matter how lost we may feel. He loves you and He is there ready and waiting to rescue, heal and restore you.
